So interesting, David, the hierarchies and how the early seats of civilization were formed. Have you read Elif Shafak's There are Rivers in the Sky yet? The book is divided into 2 stories, one with a young man from England who works at British Museum translating Egyptian--and then goes there in search of a missing 'tablet.' It perfectly dovetails with your journey. Happy travels!

Sounds and looks like you're all having a wonderful time. I wonder if the Fall of Troy was the first time in the human psyche that such total war had been experienced, like the atom bomb on Hiroshima. Or is it because it got told over and over then written down. I like that Pericles the athenian said,"the use of poverty is to teach you to get out of it". And I say, good for Lord Byron.

Thanks Jane. I think you are right that Homer’s epic was the first Time it was written down. And of course Before it was written down it was recited orally for many Years.

I had a bit of cultural shock. Seeing words in Greek. Reminds me of an eye chart. And so many cats that are all just wanting a bite to eat as you sit at an outside restaurant table.

Have you made the posca? I love Greek yogurt with honey. Look for rusk. A dry bread made from barley. Buy it to sustain your health.

Rusk I get from Crete. Dakos barely rusk. Whole grain. Add water to soften. I dip in red wine
