Hi David! These are some great ideas. I want to supplement: take photos of signs that give details on what you're seeing. I'm not so much of a note taker during the day, but I will generally write (on computer) what I remember from that day once I'm back in the room. Sometimes it will be impressions or thoughts that I've had that were inspired by the sites. Very soon after I get home, I go through the photos (with the itinerary right next to them) and then create a memory book. Honestly, much better to have a book than to have to always go through my phone! In the old days, I'd print my photos as soon as possible after getting home and then create an album. (In some ways, when you were aware of the cost of film, you made sure to get the good shots and you weren't as swamped as we are today with the hundreds on our phones.) The first time we took our daughter to Europe, she was almost 6. We went through the photos multiple times and 30 years later, she still remembers the trip! I agree: you have to capture the trip somehow so it remains live!
Awesome comments Marjorie thank you! I agree with your point about the old film days. We were much more conservative then setting up our precious shots. Now it’s just click click click and then delete delete delete.
Sounds like a great trip and I hope you have a great time. The 10th of July has other plans for me. I am scheduled to have a TLFT on my lower spine L3-S1. You will have a lot more fun. Be careful and stay safe.
I love how you travel. I mean all the research and prep beforehand. To really know the historical and political context of the place you'll be at. Not just "wheres the nearest bar". Though I guess you might want to locate the nearest bar AFTER a days exploring! Maybe you,the whole Zoll family could put all your notes and impressions together and self publish a for family only book on it. That would be a good reason for your grandkids to write down ideas and impressions. It always makes more sense if there is a purpose. I read the account of the death of Socrates and sounds to me pretty accurate. Some think Plato made it up. I always found Socrates annoying,as did his fellow Athenians. But after reading his reasons why he chose to die rather than go into exile I now like him. They were solid gold reasons. One was that Athens was the centre of the World, the human world,it was the only Place worth being in but even better reason if he chose exile it would cast a shadow over his sons future lives (I didn't know he had sons) he says the shadow attaching to them would limit their political ambitions if they wanted that route and would make them 'not quite' acceptable. I thought that was a very noble reason to choose death.

I got a little “pocket printer” with sticky back notes to use - I’m super excited!

Thank you Jane. Totally agree anout good old annoying Socrates.
Loved the article today, the timeline and inclusion of the map. I am ready to get this show on the road (and in the air)! 🩷
