I stared at my phone in amazement. How did I manage to send a copy of the February 2 draft post to myself? The puzzle deepened. Brilliant Reader Jane from England had posted a comment on a Post that hadn’t even been posted yet!
I replied to her comment. Jane, how the HELL did you manage to see and comment on a DRAFT Post!!
The phone dinged again. “FEB 2 Post… Your Comment to Jane didn’t go through!”
As I walked back along the beach, I started to question my sanity.
Was it GROUNDHOG DAY???
The post that popped out yesterday titled ‘FEB 2 post: Morocco! Where to begin?’ was a bit premature! It wasn’t finished yet~! It went out to subscribers who have posts delivered by email, and to you I say Sorry! It was just one of those days!
We have been working BEHIND the SCENES to bring you an exciting series on Morocco, while exploiting the latest technology known to man, aka SUBSTACK~! But it’s still a bit touchy and a learning experience for all of us so THANK YOU for your patience as we work out the BUGS!
We weren’t QUITE ready to post yet, and it may NOT be the Feb. 2nd post, but STAY TUNED~!
Do you believe bad things come in threes?
First Thing. TV died. Sorry for all the caps it’s been one of those days. Somehow we screwed up the code on the TV. So TV gone. Maybe not so bad, but it comes in handy.
Then things started to improve. The wonderful Housecleaner came a bit early at 9:20 (she does a Marvelous Job! $400 pesos a week) so we skedaddled to the Club and enjoyed a morning of reading and writing under an umbrella. I decided to go for a walk before lunch.
There wasn’t much action, so I headed back to the Club. But on the way I spotted two guys in the surf. What were they up to?
Oystermen!
And they were diving at the end of a very HIGH TIDE! As you can see in the video, they hauled bag after bag out of the surf up on the shore. At least four bags in all.
Some of the osteones (Oysters) were still attached to stones, so they knocked off the stones (opening photo) which reduced their burden, then hauled their catch back over the bridge, at least a kilometer over loose stone.
The richness of this fishery never ceases to amaze me.
You can see in the video how the oystermen go with the flow, letting the waves do the work of pushing the heavy bags to shore. I needed that lesson today.
FIRST THING: The TV had gone out earlier (our fault, messing with the settings- it’s quite confusing). {Don’t rush it. You’re in Mexico. It will all work out…}
SECOND THING: Then after filming the oystermen, as I crossed the bridge headed back to lunch, my phone started buzzing. First I got a notice of a comment by Jane in England on a post that was set to be published on February 2nd! I tried to reply to Jane’s comment (see opening rant) and got a notice that the post was unavailable. So let’s just say I was a bit disheveled by the time I got to lunch.
But the avocado stuffed with shrimp and a cold beer made me feel a lot better.
I returned to walk the beach this evening, without a phone, to calm down and organize my mind.
An evening walk, sans phone, was just the trick. The tide was running out. I watched and waved to the boat captain as he ran upstream through the rapids which form at low tide as the last meter of water in the Lagoon suddenly decides to run to the sea.
It’s easy to come in at high tide. Or slack tide. But low tide is another matter. It’s like the plug was pulled in the bathtub and all the water wants to go to the sea, go to the sea. It’s hard to go against the flow.
I wouldn’t even want to run out of the Lagoon at low tide. Best to stay in the Lagoon or at Sea until high tide. It adds a good meter of water under the keel. Go with the flow.
At any rate, the tide was coming in and the Lagoon was running out, the Frigate birds were wheeling above and the Boobies and Pelicans were diving. It was quite an affair.
I could sense that the Universe was giving me a lesson. Don’t fight it. It will all work out. Go with the flow. I returned home.
First issue - TV - Resolved! Just as I got back from the evening walk, Mike came over and fixed the TV, kindly explaining all the intricacies and tricks. Thanks Mike!
Second issue - Substack Post - Resolved! Our Brilliant Consultant Kristi assured me that the Ground Hog Day post was no longer up, which was why I couldn’t comment on Jane’s Comment, or even see the post.
I told the Brilliant Wife, “It’s been one of those days.”
“What happened on your Substack today? I got a strange email. Did you figure it out?”
I knocked a glass off the dining room table on the tile floor.
It shattered into a million pieces, as only good glass can do.
“That’s the Third Thing! Hooray the curse is broken!” I shouted!
The Brilliant Wife just sighed.
I was so happy to sweep up the shards of glass. “Looks like the Cleaning Lady did a pretty good job! Only thing I can find sweeping up is lots of glass! Good News!”
The Brilliant Wife just sighed.
Do you believe bad things come in threes? They do. Just wait for it. But don’t let it get you down. You just need to smile it off. Look on the sunny side. And be grateful when that third thing happens!
I am so relieved!
Third issue: Broken Glass - Resolved~!
Thanks for traveling along!
And a special Welcome to new subscribers! It’s usually NOT this hectic around here. Really!
Oh, yeah, and you can delete that Feb. 2 email you got yesterday.
It’s not Groundhog Day yet.
Is it?
I was impressed w the Feb 2 post. How many travel writers have also traveled through time?
Oysters maybe a pearl will be found. Luck changes after three bad events. In L.A. actors die in threes. Ground hog, sees shadow or not? Flip a coin. Heads out of hole. Tail’s in burrow sleeping.
