That's so quaint! And not a grapevine anywhere! That looks like a great holiday place to visit. Those cottages are so pretty. I had the first volume of Mark Twains autobiography,it was bigger than The Bible and that was only volume I. ( A Xmas present). In it he really tried very hard to help that General Grant because he was Stoney Broke and Twain put in a lot of effort trying to get his memoirs published so the poor guy,the broke hero could earn some money. I don't know if he succeeded. I bet that's why his wife looked grumpy!
I have never seen a golden ring on a carousel but my high school english teacher made a big deal about it in Catcher in the Rye and we had to write a long paper analyzing it! In my mind it was much more difficult to reach but it was interesting to see one!
Per your last article I did a quick ChatGPT to try to remember how that ring was important as I can’t recall (seems fair!)
My prompt: briefly what does the golden ring signify in catcher in the rye
AI response (probably better than my essay so long ago!)
In *The Catcher in the Rye*, the golden ring symbolizes the risks and challenges of growing up. When Holden Caulfield watches children reaching for the gold ring on a carousel, he realizes that they must be allowed to take risks and make mistakes, even if it might lead to failure or disappointment.
Cottages look amazing-Been all over the country but other than business in Bloomfield CT a few times I have never spent leisure time in the New England area. Looks like a wonderful area to visit. Glad you’re enjoying it!
I told my wife about the place where you could buy fresh lobster. Now I will tell her about the camp meeting houses. They still have them here. Not far from our home there is a group of small houses used for the meetings. They are not as elaborate as the ones on Marthas Vinyard, but I imagine they have been there a lot longer. Looked like a fun day.
The cottages are simply darling! And quite a history too.

Please share your visit to your local camp meeting cottages! I’d love to see them!
I will try to get down there today and take some pictures
