The Value of Travel Insurance. We do not book any trip without it! I am retired healthcare administration and it now appears that no trip of ours is complete without some sort of medical emergency (sprained ankle in Canada, my BS (beloved spouse) with kidney stone in Greece, my torn meniscus in Egypt). It has been interesting experiencing healthcare in different countries! In addition, my mother is 92 and in failing health. I never know when something may happen to her. Add in an eastern seaboard snowstorm of the century that cancelled our Iceland trip, and COVID that cancelled or postponed several trips and the importance of travel insurance is critical. I would like to hear from others about the best place to purchase the travel insurance?
Hi Sue - so good to hear that you are a “true believer” in Travel Insurance! Although I’m sorry for the circumstances that have made that so! 🫣 For my clients, I do try to compare the options between whatever the supplier is offering (cruise line or land supplier) versus our in-house contracted policy which is fairly comprehensive. But sometimes neither of those fit the bill depending on the trip or the client! I will usually then send them to insuremytrip.com as I find it a very good resource for pooling and comparing options! For me, the most important thing is that my clients are covered!! I hate the feeling of when someone departs on a trip without coverage…
I have used insuremytrip.com as well. Works great and has a larger variety of companies. I do miss the days when we could ‘tailor’ our coverages in the main categories.
Hubby and I are 77, and we still do ‘adventure’ travel (whatever you want to make of that) where the possibility of physical mishap is heightened. Yep, sprains, meniscus tears, serious local GI infections, all probable.
Just like David and Myra, we go to those exotic far off places, some rather remote.
People need to realize how important medical coverage is, especially medical evacuation to hospital of choice.
Paul - just to be clear, this series is a collection of experiences and recommendations that David wanted in order to help him plan an upcoming trip. David creates the daily frame, asks us questions, then we co-author responses, and David edits and publishes.
This will be a delightful joint project for a small group of us.
Very inspiring. Jan + Mike stay at a riad on their November stays. Jan says it's very friendly country.

Oops, also want to chime in on providers. I shop for coverage using the aggregator TinLeg.
Bids by companies vary depending on countries we will be visiting, so best cost for my absolute coverage requirements differs each trip.
My choices still come out to about 10% of the trip cost that I enter into the calculation.
Totally agree!!

What a great team! Loved the “bios” and looking forward to the series.
This is going to be fun. It’s a chance for me to revisit a recent epic trip and get my materials and memories organized.
Sounds like a great trip. Can't wait to read about it.
