I wanted sooooo much to jump into the discussion on free will and determinism, overlayed with the implications concerning ethics.

My vote is for biological determinism overlayed by a ethical decision-making capability.

Great idea to reschedule our Morocco project. I am so busy with cooking/ hosting for the rest of the week, then a trip to Art Basel in Miami and then to NYC for our joint Christmas gift (all in Dec). Whew!!

Your tour looks like a great way to miss a turkey dinner.

I've often asked myself why I can't remember the good times rather than remembering the countless incidents in life that disturb my sleep. There had to be good times. Where are they in my brain? It's like I'm reviewing life in lieu of the inevitable. That Twix jingle comes in handy, though: Outta my head, get outta my head. You're not payin' rent so get outta my head. It works to expel the thought until another one comes along.

Or you could just recite the Koran. Or some other holy text, perhaps. Or make up your OWN mantra! That might be fun. In the book I am reading, discussed above, they really did constantly recite verses and it had a remarkable effect, especially in hopeless or dire situations.

If you had a traumatic event and couldn’t get off it, a really strong mantra might help. That’s what you’re doing with the Twix jingle.

True. There is power in chanting prayers and mantras. I still have a few Baha'i prayers memorized from long ago that still help me keep my balance. One begins with "O God, refresh and gladden my Spirit." It's my favorite stabilizer.

O God! Refresh and gladden my spirit.

O God! Refresh and gladden my spirit. Purify my heart. Illumine my powers. I lay all my affairs in Thy hand. Thou art my Guide and my Refuge. I will no longer be sorrowful and grieved; I will be a happy and joyful being. O God! I will no longer be full of anxiety, nor will I let trouble harass me. I will not dwell on the unpleasant things of life.

O God! Thou art more friend to me than I am to myself. I dedicate myself to Thee, O Lord.

My friend who lives in Shrewsbury, email penfriend really goes to Morocco with her husband for a month each winter. Would like to stay all winter but budget doesn't quite stretch to that. She loves Morocco, says the people there are kind and friendly. Did you know Morocco was NEVER part of the Ottoman Empire, thats significant. In some way. Not sure if details. Your whole family get together and holiday and festive meal etc sound more like Xmas than Xmas and extremely enjoyable for you all. Then to Egypt, wow, that is some travel. But do be careful. I'm hearing about Red Sea Tourist trip boats having nasty accidents and people dying. It's happened once too often and now even non tin foil hat wearers are asking is something going on. I will get more out of YOUR reports on these places than if I went myself!
