Thanks for all the (really useful ) info. I saw those travel cubes on a you tube + they look a good idea. My travel tips,I got this one from tv traveller Michael Palin (on his TV show not in person, lol) always take a plug for the sink. It dates from the days when Soviet hotels almost never had a sink or bath plug but I still find it almost a life saver! on occasion. I prefer it to having to make a big fuss in reception especially if it's a budget place anyway. I mean if it's The Ritz, that's different! Make sure youve got at least two adaptors so you can plug your devices into the local power supply as different countries have different systems. Take a paper map or several of the place you're going to. Google maps is great as it shows you the coffee shops, museums etc but when you're tired and youve taken a wrong turn and the blue dot keeps jumping about and the screen is moving about all over the place ....I know, just me. We must keep up the skill of map reading. Last make a detailed itinerary of each day,the place you want to go,how to get there, research the trains, buses, metro lines. Even if you are driving a car you need to know where the parking is. Note where everything is relation to other things then on your first day,the bus is on diversion, the train is cancelled. You'll go to places you never planned, see things you never knew were there, have a million times more fabulous day than you planned but because of your research you'll have an inkling that (I think) there is a bus stop round that corner that will take me to X,from where I think I can transfer to metro line Y to get to ....and so it proves.
Being pleasantly lost is great even romantic but being hot, sweaty, panicky,I think my legs are going to give out lost is horrible. Especially when your phone is about to die. A paper map as back up is a boon.
Are those manilla notebooks also good for sketching? I see a lot of Substackers recording their adventures with drawings in sketchbooks. it guess it really doesn't matter if there are lines if someone wants to just jot down a simple sketch.
Thanks for the info David. I hope I get to use it one day.
I hope you can make it Paul!!!
Hydration is definitely one of the top secret to a successful travel. Especially in the heat. Thanks!
Love the scarves.

These are EXCELLENT ideas Jane! Thank you! I really like the paper map idea. When you’re lost you’re LOST!

When we get to that point we call it the “Death March.” LOL. BW: “are we on a Death March?” Me: “Whoops, yeah, starting to feel that way…”.
Time to find a café and get out the map.
